Construction is directly related to the growth in the city of the Jewish population. The developing Samara diaspora was neither quantitatively nor qualitatively satisfied with the two prayer houses existing in the city . The petition of the Jews to build a large synagogue was granted, and in 1903 a large synagogue for 1,000 people was laid.
Currently, the synagogue is not being restored. It is fenced and the entrance to the inside is prohibited. In August 2018, restoration work began on the reconstruction of the synagogue once the largest in Europe.
